This color CMOS USB 3.0 camera from ZWO features the Sony IMX662 sensor, with a 2.9 micrometer pixel size and a large full-well depth of 38.2ke. Considered an upgrade of the ASI462MC, the 662 has a larger full well and no amp glow. Other improvements include Starvis 2 technology that allows for higher sensitivity to red and near infrared (NIR) light, and low dark current noise.
From the Starvis 2 technology that allows better red and near infrared (NIR) sensitivity, to the high full well capacity, to a high quantum efficiency, this camera has many solid features.
Sony IMX662AAQR-C Sensor with Starvis 2
The ASI662-MC features the Sony IMX662 sensor with Starvis 2 technology. Considered an upgrade on the IMX462, this sensor features an improved QE peak (91%) and a full well capacity that is 3x larger (38.2ke). In addition, the IMX662 has very low readout noise. Taken together, these featuers allow for longer expsoures and to avoid overexposures.
Quantum Efficiency
Quantum efficiency (QE) and readout noise are important specifications for an astrophotography camera, as they are indicative of camera performance. Higher quantum efficiencies and lower readout noise specifications indicate better performance. As shown on the graph to the left, the ASI662MC has a peak quantum efficiency of 91%, which is a roughly 11% improvement from the 462MC.
Readout Noise
Check out the graph to the left to see readout noise and other specifications. The ASI662MC features low read noise and a high dynamic range. The built-in HCG mode is able to effectively reduce readout noise at high gain to maintain a similarly high dynamic range as it does at low gain. The HCG mode turns on automatically when gain reaches 252. Readout noise is as low as 0.8e with a range of 0.8e-6.9e (1.22e @ 19db gain).
ASIair Plus Camera Control (Sold Separately)
There is a wireless camera control solution available for this camera, and it's called the ZWO ASIair Plus. This small wireless module allows you to focus, take images, make adjustments with your smartphone or tablet, and even do plate solving and computerized mount control with the built-in SkySafari bridge. If you'd like to add an ASIair Plus to your camera order, you can find it in the suggested accessories section.

Thank you Laurence, the unit works very well with the speaker arrangement I have and has a clear sound, it has brought new life to these since my amp blew many years ago. Vaughan
